Class Schedules for 2025

Term 3 Schedule

Primary-aged classes (fortnightly)

30th July - Investigating Materials

In this session filled with experiments, students investigate the different properties of materials such polystyrene, rubber, wood and metal. Properties as elasticity, density, conduction of heat and mass to identify why we use different materials for specific applications.

13th August - Under Pressure

Feeling under pressure? That’s because standard air pressure at sea level is typically 101.3 kilopascals (kPa)! Pressure is an amazing concept and in this session, students learn how amazing standard air pressure actually is, as well as how we can change the pressure inside containers to see it's effects and use this for propulsion.

27th August - Marg, the rains are here!

How do natural disasters occur? In this session, we investigate how flooding occurs by building a variety of landscapes and what we can do to mitigate the occurrence and damage caused by flooding.

10th September - Can you hear me?

This session is all about what it is in our ears that allows us to hear sounds, what do sound waves “look” like and how does our hearing change as we age. Students will be amazed at the behaviour of different substances when they are exposed to different wavelengths.

Secondary-aged classes (fortnightly)

23rd July - Light it up!

Light is a fascinating concept that behaves in amazing ways. In this session, students will investigate the reflection, refraction and splitting of white light using our light boxes and spectrophotometers as well as investigate light using other activities. Students then make a periscope to take home with them.

6th August - Genetics and Inheritance

Why do we look like our parents? Why do common physical traits continuously occur generation after generation? In this session, students will unlock the magic code that is our genetics and learn how important characteristics are passed down from parents to offspring.

20th August - Polymers

This session delves into what plastic is actually made of and why it is used for so many things. Students will take part in a STEM Challenge to design and bring this design to life in sculpting a figurine using a low melting point polymer.

3rd September - Feel the Earth move
Students learn all about different types of tectonic plate movement in this session and make a seismograph as well as an activity that looks at movement of soil particles when the Earth rumbles!

17th September - STEM Challenge (Flight)

In this exciting session, students learn about the requirements for flight and agility in the air and how we have used nature as inspiration when designing planes. They also
learn how to fly drones and manoeuvre them through an obstacle course of their own design.

If you have a homeschool group that would like us to come and visit, please get in touch. We bring science lessons out to our community!

We may have extra pop-up events during the year, follow us on socials to stay in the loop.
